What a difference a year makes

About a year ago Pet Haven took 3 very small kittens from an impound facility in the twin cities. 3 kittens were found in a garage, the mother had given birth there. The 4th one arrived several weeks later.

All weighed under 1.5 pounds and were thin and scrawny – and afraid of us. The man who owned the garage was going to live trap the mother so she could be spayed and he would return her to the neighborhood and continue to provide food, water and shelter for her.
The kittens were a project, a couple had infections that took some time to clear up, the runt, who was definitely in the worst condition, did not survive although we struggled for weeks. All were black with medium length fur although now that their coats are fully grown in, we realize they are long haired.
Dot, Denny and Duke have all been adopted and we have recent photos of Duke, now named Tsahim which we are told means fearless in Mongolian.
Tsahim resides with a dog, Monty, and loves him dearly. And he has turned into a large boy! 17 pounds and counting. The vet feels he is not overweight but should be close to 20 pounds when he is through growing!

All turned into charming, people loving kittens.

Call for artists – "Painting for Paws"

The annual “Painting for Paws” fundraiser for Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010. The Happy Tails cats and dogs have been busy painting one-of-a-kind pieces of original artwork with their paws for this year’s fundraiser! Pieces will be matted and framed, and accompanied by a photo and bio of the furry artist so that you can not only buy the paws painting, but you can adopt the artist as well!

In addition, there will be “human artwork” donated by local artists, a silent auction, complimentary food and wine, live music, a prize drawing and animal-themed jewelry for sale.

If you would like to be a “human artist” for this event, please send an email to eviesark {at} gmail {dot} com no later than August 14, 2010 and I will follow up with further details. Artists who donate to this fundraiser will receive complimentary admission to the event.

A new toy

Sometimes it is fun to get a new toy – when there are multiple kittens and young cats in the house, sharing can be a problem. This new fishing pole type toy was met with approval and very little squabbling – almost everyone was willing to take turns!

Wanda, Ladybug and Wendy check it out.

OK – who said the babies get to play?!

They don’t share very well!

Smokey comes to take a turn -

Smokey is a medium haired black fellow but you can see that in the sunlight he has a lot of brown in his coat – he’s a handsome guy.
All of the kittens and cats in this blog are ready for adoption except the ‘babies’. There are 8 black and white kittens and they will be spayed and neutered the first two weeks in Aug. and then you will be able to go to our website and click on Cats Available for Adoption and see their bios and pictures. They are all adorable, all have different markings and all black and white. Tilly, their mother, is gray and white and she is very happily off to a foster home that has NO MORE KITTENS! Tilly will tell you that 8 babies is too many!
If you are out and about running errands this week, stop in the Chuck and Don’s in Highland and meet Carl. He’s a nifty young guy who is hoping to find a home – one with a family who is willing to play and play and play with him or one who has another busy kitten or young cat who will play with him – play is good when you have lots of energy and cuddles are nice too.
